"Strong, high-toned, a little potent in terms of flavours - perfumed, but also quite ripe and oaky with spiced edges of clove and cinnamon and an underlying heat form the alcohol. I do like the texture though, tannins are present and mouthfilling with a chalky dryness but that is really enjoyable and satisfying. " - Decanter

Refined and polished with creamy, fine-grained tannins. Blackberry, walnut, dried-thyme and clove character. Juicy finish. Chewy at the end.

(88-90)/100 punten
Medium to deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Franc Pipeau has a wonderfully expressive nose of stewed black cherries, mulberries and preserved plums, plus hints of tobacco leaf, Chinese five spice and cedar chest with a waft of roses. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit preserves, framed by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing on a stewed tea note.

Strong, high-toned, a little potent in terms of flavours - perfumed, but also quite ripe and oaky with spiced edges of clove and cinnamon and an underlying heat form the alcohol. I do like the texture though, tannins are present and mouthfilling with a chalky dryness but that is really enjoyable and satisfying. You feel they got the tannic maturity exactly right here and the other elements will settle and harmonise over time. Likely to be very enjoyable.
