The 2022 Clos Saint-Martin comes from a tiny 1.3-hectare vineyard of clay and limestone soils and is based on 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. Glass-staining purple-hued, with powerful aromatics of pure cassis, blackberries, spicy oak, graphite, and chalky minerality, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated mid-palate, remarkable purity, and one hell of a great finish. This is another absolutely brilliant Saint-Emilion that readers will love to have in their cellar. Tasted twice.

Flowers, black cherries, licorice, smoke, spice, espresso, cinnamon, and plums open the attention seeking perfume. On the palate, the wine is sensuous, silky, long and polished. The array of perfectly ripe, black, red, and blue fruits, with their chocolate edge lingers as the berries caresses your palate from start to finish.

A racy and refined wine with lavender, sandalwood, and dark fruits. It’s medium- to full-bodied with enticing fruit and fine tannins. Open and polished. 80% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon.

Beautifully expressive on the nose, purple flowers and dark black fruits, expressive and inviting. Rich and concentrated, the black bramble and strawberry fruit has depth and intensity of flavour, but this also has such appealing acidity with quite mineral-laced tannins - liquorice, wet stone, flint, graphite and chalk all giving different textures and flavours. Comes across as quite serious, but well controlled, refined with terroir markers. Juicy, softly fleshy but retaining that bite which makes this both interesting and enjoyable. On the more refined, delicate side for the vintage. Tasted three times. 1.3 hectare vineyard, clay and limestone.
