Lynch-Moussas heeft altijd veel cabernet sauvignon in de blend (dit jaar 74% aangevuld door merlot) en laat nu juist in 2022 cabernet verbluffend mooi zijn. De 2022 die we tijdens de En Primeur Week proefden is werkelijk fantastisch: rijk, veel power en heel intens. Een ambassadeur van van hoe groots Pauillac kan zijn. Dit, in combinatie met de - voor Pauillac begrippen - bescheiden prijs, maakt dat Lynch-Moussas 2022 een wijn is die wij u wel moeten aanbevelen. Kopen, kopen!
In vogelvlucht de historie van het château: In de 18e eeuw bezat Jean-Baptiste Lynch een enorm groot landgoed dat later in tweeën opgedeeld zou worden: een deel werd Château Lynch-Bages en het andere Château Lynch-Moussas (vernoemd naar het dorpje Moussas) dat in 1850 gebouwd werd. De familie Castéja (ook Château Batailley en négociant Borie-Manoux) kocht het in 1919, maar eind jaren 60 was Lynch-Moussas bijna van het toneel verdwenen, zo zeer dat het in verval geraakt was. Begin jaren 70 renoveerde de familie de faciliteiten én wijngaarden echter volledig met als doel Lynch-Moussas weer 5e Grand Cru Classé waardig te maken. En dat is het absoluut!

Extremely well done with a full body and nicely integrated tannins that give this tension and power. The structure is wonderful. Minty. Chocolate-covered coffee beans. Serious but fun.

Inky, powerful colour, edges of heady incense on the nose but this feels more rooted in Paullac for me than many vintages of Lynch Moussas, delivering intense cassis and dark fruit character, edges of crushed rose petals, clove and tar. Plenty of fresh mint leaf coming through as well, with a real sense of poise. It feels like part of the Château Batailley family this year, more than usual, a buy. 57% new oak.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Hints of nougat and fig, black berryish fruit, ripe plums, orange zest underlying. Good complexity and freshness, elegant, fine fruitiness, integrated tannins, shows length and certain ageing potential.

The nose shows its tobacco leaf, cedar, lead pencil and currant side with a single swirl. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, and fresh, with black raspberries, currants, licorice ,and most importantly, sweetness, and lift to the red berries as well as a nice licorice accent on the back of the finish. Give it a few years in the cellar before pulling a cork, and it will be even better. The wine blends 74% Cabernet Sauvignon with 26% Merlot.
