The 2022 Moulin Haut-Laroque has a little jamminess on the noce, although I like the fruit her, blackcurrant and blueberry, a touch of incense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, smooth in texture with a touch of tobacco on the finish. This is very promising.

65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec. Hail in June reduced volumes – first time they have seen hail in their vineyards in Haut-Laroque – as did drought. But the vines did not shut down. Very tough on the 2 ha of very young vines he had just planted. Cask sample.
Inky purple core with purple rim. Very dark, concentrated and a little charry in its dark character. Chewy but smooth texture, pure, intense black and blue fruit. There’s a coolness to the wine even with the concentration and firm tannins.
