Vanaf jaargang 2016 is Marjolaine Defrance - die we nog kennen van onder meer Château Pape Clément en Smith Haut Lafitte - de wijnmaker op Siran. In samenwerking met consulting oenologue Hubert de Boüard heeft zij de afgelopen jaren een duidelijke, heel positieve stempel op de wijnstijl gedrukt waarbij onder meer het midden palet meer body kreeg en afgerekend werd met de tot dan toe vaker redelijk ‘rustieke’ tannine. Het resultaat mag er absoluut zijn. Zeker in een TOPjaar als 2022, getuige ook de bijzonder lovende kritieken van de kenners.

Attractive berry fruit here with spices and orange peel undertones. Medium- to full-bodied, toned and steady with compact tannin structure. Deep. Long finish with stony minerality. Most structured yet fine Siran I have tasted for a long time.

The 2022 Siran is one the best wines I have tasted from the property. Silky, aromatic and light on its feet, Siran is exceptionally polished. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, chalk and white pepper all grace this exquisite Margaux. Superb.

Deep dark ruby, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Red cherries, some liqourice and orange zest, floral touch in the underlay. Juicy, elegant, good fruit expression, good freshness, lingers long, subtle nougat on the finish.Good length, certain ageing potential, already accessible.

Very dark crimson. Polished, mild nose with lots of mulberry fruit and some Margaux silkiness. Fine tannin and quite a bit of apparent acidity on the finish. Not flashy but nicely balanced. On the basis of past history, I’d expect this to last quite a while.
