"Gosh, Floris is charming this vintage. Pared back and refined, but charming nonetheless. A light showing of grapefruit and white nectarine, a flutter of ginger powder and gossamer-like creamy lees. Oak a mere backdrop. Moreish and savoury, and superb now, yet will last some distance."

"Citron lemon skin, turmeric and jonquil flowers. There is calamansi lime zest too with pockets of white peach and rum soaked pineapple. A delightful mesh of grainy skin grip adds further dimension to the wine, with driving acidity and power that belies its moderate alcohol. Some ginger ale and Amaro bitterness rounds out the finish like a standing ovation. This has so much character and nuance, it might take you a few sips before you quite know how to respond. Great wines tend to do that in my opinion."

"It's been a little while between drinks for Floris and me, so I'm glad to see it on the bench here today. This 2023 Floris Chardonnay speaks as eloquently of the graceful 2023 vintage as the Sauvage Sauvignon Blanc did before it, in that it is eminently refined, elegant and drinkable in the extreme. Here, we have salted cashews, white peach, green apple, a splay of citrus rind and briny acidity. In the mouth, the phenolics shape the experience; they hold the fruit tightly and yet guide it through a long and slow finish."

"The 2020 season in Margaret River was low yielding, warm and compacted, and the wines are concentrated, structural and full of flavor. The 2020 Morus Cabernet Sauvignon marks the first time that the Morus is sealed under Stelvin, and it does have an impact on the wine in the glass. The vision is sharper, the flavors more distinct, the oak more clear to perceive. It tightens up all the edges, and I believe it is better for it. Admittedly, it may need a decant to bring it around to the open-weave approachability of the previous vintages, however, the freshness of the fruit is a thing to behold. The fruit is 100% Wilaybrup Cabernet Sauvignon, 35-year-old Houghton selection clones. Destemmed, the berries are split just enough to let some juice out and start fermenting. Undergoing a cool, long ferment in stainless (peak of 25 degrees Celsius), the cap is managed as required. As the fermentation progresses the management evolves. Post ferment, the wine is left on the skins for a further two to three weeks. It is matured in 225-liter French oak barriques (Taransaud, Jupilles, Allier, and "just a smidgen of Bertrand," 55% to 60% new) for 14-18 months, depending on the season."

"A powerhouse of a wine and built for ageing, yet rather decadent if opened today and, if so, a decant is a good idea. Full of mulberries, plum compote with tobacco, nori, eucalyptus and herbs wafting through. Licorice and lots of cedary oak spices, plus wood tannins, but all well integrated into the full-bodied wine. Rather sumptuous, rich and a bit old school, but it has poise and a certain flair."

"50% whole bunches, as the name suggests (a rachis is a stem). 12 months on lees, stirred monthly, in 500L puncheons (30% new). Stemmy, sappy, spicy nose that basically jumps out of the glass. While the fruit occupies the midnight end of the spectrum, the pink peppercorn spice brings it back closer to the middle. This is succulent, fleshy, crunchy ... quite gorgeous. A resounding YES, and thoroughly of the 'modern Margaret River way' of shiraz. Bravo."
