Juicy and full of life, this is on the more tense, linear spectrum. Not plush or expansive as such, but has such purity and clarity of fruit. I love the linear nature of the flavours, driving from start to finish without deviating from the centre. The fruit is dark and black, with wet stone elements and cooling menthol and cinnamon touches hinting at the wood by the finish. Stylish with character. Still has an underlying power, but comes across as so charming at this point. A top buy that will be drinking well if given another year or two.

The 2020 Héritage Marc Pagès from La Tour de By has a well-defined bouquet of joyful blackberry, raspberry and pressed violet scents. There is a subtle, almost honeyed, figgy note in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, fleshy and well balanced, and silky-smooth toward the finish, which shows a light saline note. This is a delicious Médoc that should give up to 15 years of drinking pleasure.
