Displaying a youthful ruby red hue, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is pure and focused on the nose, with cranberries, Bing cherries, fresh roses, blood orange, and stony earth. The palate is medium-bodied and compact, with well-defined tannins, brisk acidity, and a long finish framed by salty accents. It’s a standout wine that will require patience, yet it has all the structure to drink at its best over the next two to three decades. Bottled in May 2025. Drink 2026-2057.

Within that framework, the wine reveals layers of cassis, red rose and grilled rosemary, offering impressive complexity inside a full-bodied but elegantly streamlined structure marked by vibrancy and energy. The wine is produced using the estate’s long-standing approach of fermentation and aging in Slavonian oak and cement, a formula that preserves finesse and site expression. Production totals approximately 35,000 bottles plus larger formats, and while the price is undeniably high, the quality fully supports the ambition.

Medium-bodied, full of tension and precision, showing focused, delineated fruit framed by nervy, fine-grained yet firm tannins and vibrant, linear acidity. Combines transparency and structure. Crunchy, incisive and beautifully defined, with exceptional length and detail. Drink now with aeration or cellar for a couple of years. Drink or hold.

Powerful, bright ruby with garnet shimmer. Very appealing and intense nose, multi-layered, showing notes of ripe dark cherries and plums as well as licorice, graphite and some rosemary. Inspiring on the attack and on the palate, shows present fruit, builds up in many layers, very good tension, unfortunately somewhat brittle on the finish.

Poggio di Sotto’s 2021 defies the hot, arid conditions. Winemaker Leonardo Berti explains that they harvest as the grapes are reaching their ripening plateau, not after. The estate’s rich diversity of old clones also yields big bunches and grapes, curbing concentration and alcohol. Still discreet, the nose suggests redcurrant jelly and pepper, along with earthy accents of brushwood and hazelnut skin. Smooth and sophisticated in flow, it progresses with thyme-inflected raspberry. A complex web of powdery tannins expands with precision. There is depth without denseness, and blood orange and rust simmer within.

One month on the skins and aged for more than 36 months in large oak casks. Certified organic by ICEA. Lustrous deep ruby. Very youthful and lifted with raspberry and hints of blood orange. Lush and composed on the palate at the same time and with a thick layer of grainy tannins. Very long, lush and dramatic.
