Vol en stevig. Donker fruit, stoere tannine, frisse zuren
"Dried strawberries, mushrooms, bark and flowers on the nose. It changes all the time! Full-bodied with intense yet refined tannins that drive the center palate to a long and almost endless finish. Great length. Great wine as always! Impressive to taste now, but this will be even better in three to five years. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (James Suckling, 98/100)

Ripping Rippon, as I like to say with this wine. Bold and beautiful pinot noir. A lot of swagger, inky black cherry fruit set on a tense web of tannins. Scents and flavours of ripe red berries, truffle, turned earth though all that with precise tannins and fresh acidity underlying. While lots of flavour and perfume present the wine finds power but a palate cleansing vibrancy that follows. Serious red, and serious cellaring time should suit.

The 2018 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir was the earliest pick ever at Rippon at "two weeks before we'd ever started before,” says Nick Mills. “This was a high metabolism year [the opposite of 2020], just a warm and giving year. Perfect flowering. Normally the vines would be at the end of [their] season at picking, and this year, all the bees were still buzzing; the clover was knee height.” With kirsch, cranberry, fresh pomegranate pearls, hints of arnica and star anise on the nose, this is a lovely wine that shows very little signs of aging. If you have a 2018 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot in your cellar, you can hang onto it for a wee while yet; it has only just moved out of inchoate. Great. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam.
