Sweet berries and cherries with some sandalwood and lavender. Full-bodied with firm tannins and a juicy finish. Still a little tight. Decant before serving. 50% sangiovese and 50% merlot. Unfiltered. Drink or hold.

In the past, Umberto Trombelli worked with Giacomo Tachis, who used to called himself not a winemaker but a ‘blender’. 50% Sangiovese, 50% Merlot from a single vineyard, called Chiusino Nuovo, in Montepulciano at 300–400 m above sea level. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 24 months in tonneaux and 12 months in 10-hl barrels.
Deep ruby. A pretty nose of leafy cherry with a hint of tobacco leaf and with Merlot’s richness underneath. Hints of oak, but really subtly done. Sappy and rich at the same time followed by a long acidic nerve filled out with plenty of ripe fruit and soft, gritty tannins. Hedonistic and stylish.

Signed by enologist Umberto Trombelli, the Suadela Collezione degli Enologi 2016 Toscana is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot from the Chiusino Nuovo vineyard in Montepulciano, Tuscany. The site is located at a breezy 300 to 400 meters in elevation with sandy soils and well-draining sedimentary rock that is perfect for achieving freshness in both varieties. This is a richly concentrated expression from a terrific vintage. It shows balanced aromas of blackberry, plum, potting soil and cured leather. Of the six wines in this collection, this is the most contemporary or international in personality. Only 2,000 bottles were produced.
