Met de Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva laat de familie Antinori zien dat ze, ook al ze zich wél houden aan de strikte regels van de DOCG Chianti Classico, wijnen kunnen maken van enorm hoog niveau. Het is een wijn, waar liefhebbers jaarlijks naar uitkijken.
Fijnkorrelige tannines en donker fruit van kersen en bosvruchten bouwen op naar een lang crescendo in de afdronk. . Een prachtwijn, al helemaal wanneer men naar de prijs kijkt. Een terroir-wijn in het kwadraat. Enerzijds betekent dat de elegante kracht en concentratie die hoort bij goede Chianti Classico, anderzijds het rijpe fruit en preciezie tannineuze profiel van deze vintage. Jeb Dunnuck (94+ punten) schrijft: "it delivers strong concentration in this vintage, with a fresh, vertical profile supported by vibrant acidity and well-defined tannins."
Vinous schrijft over de Chianti's van Marchesi Antinori; "the top Chianti Classico wines are superb". Deze 2023-jaargang valt ook in die categorie. Sangiovese heeft hier de overhand (à 92%) en het restant is Cabernet Sauvignon. De wijn is tegelijk floraal en rijp in de neus, maakt een gelaagde indruk en is aromatisch nu al bijzonder expressief. Denk aan bosgrond en truffel, kruidnagel, mokka en leer. Vlezige kersen, rijpe bramen en donkere bessen. De wijn zingt na op de tong.

The 2023 Chianti Classico Riserva pours a deep, youthful red hue and is pure and expressive, with aromas of black cherry, pine, pressed violet, mocha, and forest earth. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers strong concentration in this vintage, with a fresh, vertical profile supported by vibrant acidity and well-defined tannins. Notes of Amarena cherry carry through the palate, with a warm touch of cedar spice on the finish. This is a particularly strong vintage for this wine, offering both immediate appeal and the structure to evolve over the coming 10-15 years. It’s composed of 92% Sangiovese and the rest Cabernet and Merlot. Drink 2026-2040.

Big fruit and some ripeness emerge from the bouquet of the Marchesi Antinori 2023 Chianti Classico Riserva Tenuta Tignanello Marchese Antinori. The wine is open-knit and generous, with rich fruit, tart spice and a savory side. Hints of clove and nutmeg add complexity and warmth. The Sangiovese and complementary varieties are aged in French and Hungarian oak barriques for about a year.
This report offers a first look at a selection of new releases from Marchesi Antinori. Reviews of the estate’s higher-end wines, notably Tignanello and Solaia, will be published in an upcoming report, as I have not yet managed to organize my annual tasting with CEO and chief winemaker Renzo Cotarella. For now, these wines offer a useful snapshot of the broader portfolio and the accessible, polished style that Antinori delivers with remarkable consistency.

A blast of dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol, licorice and espresso fills out the layers. Soft, plush contours wrap it all together in style. Bright acids and floral top notes extend the nuanced finish.

A historic label first produced in the 1923 vintage, today's Riserva aims to combine the past with the present. Vinified in stainless steel and aged in large oak barrels and some barriques, this has a plush, ripe aroma of dark hedgerow berries and menthol. A bed of supple, ripe tannins and coffee-marked wood support the breadth and depth of this wine's offering: spicy and fleshy dark fruits with a gentle wash of freshening acidity and some breezy menthol on the finish. 500,000 bottles produced.
